Likely to be the last upgrade for the ageing 9-3 line-up before a new model arrives in the next couple of years, the updated 9-3 nonetheless gets a number of significant updates.
The 2012 9-3, which will be known internationally as the 9-3 Griffin, gets the same front-end update as the Independence Edition, including a restyled front bumper and a subtly revised grille design.
Saab's new 2.0 litre direct-injected and turbocharged petrol engine will be offered across the range (sedan, SportCombi wagon, 9-3X and convertible), available in 120kW and 165kW variants.
The new joins the existing TTiD 1.9 litre turbodiesel engines, available internationally in 97kW, 120 and 135kW variants.
Inside, the regular 9-3 range gets new 'titanium metallic-effect' highlights to the instrument panel, gearshift molding, doors and glove box, along with an optional titanium effect for the instrument panel fascia.
The Aero model gets a graphite fibre-effect for these items and for the instrument panel fascia.
SE models feature leather seats as standard, and Aero models get leather sports seats with contrasting stitching.
The updated 9-3 range will debut in Australia this year, although exact timing and pricing has yet to be confirmed. Saab Australia has been contacted for details.
