The smallest Rolls-Royce is about to go bigger, as our new spy photos of a stretched Rolls-Royce Ghost test car reveal.

Although a convertible had been the focus of earlier speculation, the appearance of the long-wheelbase Ghost follows comments from CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes in September that pointed to a new variant joining the new model's line-up.

At 5399mm long, the current Ghost is far from short and a good 130mm longer than the stretched Audi A8 L limousine. Opulence is Rolls-Royce's bread-and-butter of course; it's little surprise that the company has found buyer interest for an even longer version of the Ghost.

Visually, the spied Ghost test car is all-but identical to the model launched in Shanghai last year, with only the longer rear doors and roofline giving the game away.

Rolls-Royce has yet to announce details for the unnamed 'Ghost L', although engine options are likely to carry over from the existing model - giving it a 6.6 litre turbocharged V12 engine producing 420kW and 780Nm of torque.
