New images have surfaced online this morning, revealing the first look at both the Sedan and Estate (wagon) versions of the updated-for-2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

While images of the brand-new C-Class Coupe have yet to make their way online, these leaked brochure shots of the Sedan and Estate reveal that external updates are largely limited to new headlights, a new front bumper and a subtly revised grille. The C-Class always get a new lightweight aluminium bonnet.

The story is much the same at the rear, largely unchanged but for a stylish LED update to the taillights, which have otherwise maintained the shape of the current model's rear lights.

Inside, the new C-Class gets the same three-spoke steering wheel fitted to the CLS, along with a new dash layout, adding a fixed LCD screen under an extended cowl, in place of the flip-up unit in the outgoing model.

All new C-Class models will be fitted with the ECO Start/Stop function, and each model is now classed among the brand's green-minded BlueEFFICIENCY range - even the C 350's new six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 225kW and 360Nm (up from 217kW and 365Nm).

Mercedes-Benz' list of standard safety features continues to grow, with the new C-Class featuring the following technologies:

  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist
  • Active Blind Spot Assist
  • ATTENTION ASSIST
  • DISTRONIC PLUS
  • Speed Limit Assist
  • Parking guidance including PARKTRONIC
  • PRE-SAFE® Brake
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Blind Spot Assist

Lastly, the new C-Class will also debut the company's latest generation of COMAND control systems, offering larger displays, telephone directory transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless Bluetooth music streaming and a USB interface. Internet connectivity is also featured, for the first time.

The updated C-Class Sedan and Estate are expected to make their Australian debut in the second quarter of 2011, with pricing and technical specifications to be revealed closer to launch.
