It was only a matter of time: images of the updated-for-2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG have surfaced online today, following the unveiling last week of the regular 2012 C-Class line-up.

Obtained by Germany's Evo Cars magazine, the images reveal the same new headlights featured with the regular C-Class, along with a subtly tweaked grille and a more refined front bumper.

Inside, the 2012 C 63 AMG gets the same updated dash and centre console, along with the requisite sports-minded highlights.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to reveal any official technical details or launch dates for the updated C 63, although power is likely to come from AMG's new 400kW 5.5 litre twin-turbo V8, dropping the 6.2 litre V8 of the current model.

Interestingly, Evo Cars reports that the expected C 63 AMG Coupe will gain the new engine, while the sedan will benefit only from a power upgrade to the existing 6.2 litre engine.

As the leaked interior image teases, the new C 63 will likely be be offered with the brand's SpeedShift MCT seven-speed automatic transmission. In the new S 63 AMG, the SpeedShift powers the the big sedan to 100km/h in 4.0-4.5 seconds.

An unveiling date for the new C 63 AMG has not been announced, although a Detroit Motor Show launch in January appears likely.
