Ford's all-new 2011 Ranger, unveiled to the world at last year's Australian International Motor Show, has been met by a hugely positive public and media response.

While the new Ranger line-up isn't expected to hit the market until later this year, it seems Ford may be preparing to unveil the one variant that has so far remained out of the spotlight: the range-topping Wildtrak.

TMR has received information from a source close to the project this week that the top-shelf Wildtrak will make its debut at Geneva in March, although Ford Australia spokesperson Neil McDonald was unable today to offer any insight.

"Unfortunately we're not in a position to comment on specific future product plans, or possible Geneva show cars," Mr McDonald said.

Exactly what features and power figures we can expect for the Wildtrak remains to be seen.

The current Ranger Wildtrak is powered by the same 3.0 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine featured in the XL and XLT models, producing 115kW and 380Nm of torque.

With the new Ranger line-up opening with a 110kW 2.2 litre four-cylinder diesel, the Wildtrak will more likely feature the larger 3.2 litre five-cylinder diesel, producing 147kW and 470Nm of torque.

As with the current model, the new Wildtrak will likely benefit from sports-focussed styling, including larger wheels and body kit.
