THE FERRARI 612 Scaglietti is due for retirement soon, and these new spy photos show that development of its successor is under way.

Going on five years old, the 612 is the elder statesmen of the current Ferrari line-up. The model that replaces it is expected, like the new 458, to feature sharper styling.

Little is known about the 612's successor at this early stage, but a brand-new V12 powerplant is one of the more popular rumours doing the rounds.

If the current engine - developing an already generous 397kW - is to be replaced or revised, the new mill would likely focus on reducing emissions and improving fuel economy.

'Ferrari World Abu Dhabi' Theme Park Coming In 2010

FERRARI HAS announced its Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park will open next year, following its Foundation Stone Ceremony in 2007 that kicked off construction.

Attractions will include the world's fastest rollercoaster, reaching speeds in excess of 200km/h.

Simulating the G-forces inflicted on a Formula 1 driver's body, another ride will rocket passengers 60 metres up through the centre of the park's unique red roof.

The park will offer more than twenty rides in total, all beneath the red canopy-like roof, itself featuring the world's largest Ferrari logo - 65 metres long.

Based on Yas Island off the North East coast of Abu Dhabi, the park will be the first of its kind - and the largest, covering 49.5 acres or around 200,000 square metres.
