Following its international unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Nissan Australia has today announced the impending availability of the 2011 Nissan Micra.

Officially launching next month, It will be available with a choice of two powertrains, a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and in three specification grades.

Planned as a core model for its Australian operations, the 2011 Micra is Nissan's answer to the growing 'global car' trend. Built on Nissan's new V-platform, the Australian-delivered Micra will be built in Thailand, alongside Japanese-market models.

Nissan says its V-platform has been developed to maximise the car's compatibility with the localisation requirements of different global markets. The Japanese carmaker has over 150 countries in its sights.

“We are confident the all-new Nissan Micra has what it takes to become the new light car segment leader,” Nissan Australia's Dan Thompson said.

“We see three main conquest groups for the all-new Nissan Micra: first time new car buyers who value innovation, agility and contemporary fashion trends; those who need a small and zippy second car that is inexpensive to run; and more mature buyers scaling down but unwilling to give up state-of-the-art safety and convenience features they have come to expect.”

With a slightly longer wheelbase than its predecessor, Nissan says the new Micra offers greater interior space and comfort, particularly in the rear.
