COUPE ENTHUSIASTS with a little more to spend will be closely watching the progress of the upcoming 2011 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. This model will replace the CL moniker in the company's model name shake-up.

Recent spy photos of the big coupe reveal a larger, squarer grille, as well as a new curved headlight design with a LED strip along the bottom of each. Our renderings (above and following) offer a glimpse of what might lay ahead.

Out back, full LED tail-lights adorn the rear, above a restyled bumper and exhaust tips.

Arriving later this year, the S-Class Coupe is likely to utilise the same V8 and V12 engine options of the current C216 CL, which first appeared in the Mercedes lineup at the tail end of 2006.

While retaining the existing engine line-up, it is believed the new Coupe will feature an updated exhaust filtering system to ensure the new model meets Europe's strict new emissions laws.

Stop-start technology and direct injection systems are also expected to feature.

The renderings top and above provide possibly the clearest 'un-camouflaged' look at the neat styling of Mercedes' new large coupe.
