2011 Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG And CL 65 AMG On Sale In Australia

Following their local unveiling at last month's Australian International Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has announced availability of the high-performance 2011 CL 63 AMG and CL 65 AMG.

Utilising a more highly-tuned version of Mercedes' new 5.5 litre twin-turbo V8 engine revealed earlier this year, and paired with AMG's seven-speed SpeedShift automatic transmission, the CL 63 AMG produces 400kW at 5500rpm and 800Nm of torque between 2000 and 4500rpm.

For the CL 63 AMG, the 0-100km/h sprint is covered in 4.4 seconds, and top speed is electronically-limited to 250km/h.

Optioned with the AMG Performance package, the CL 63 AMG's figures jump to 420kW, while also shaving a fraction off its 0-100km/h to list 4.3 seconds. Top speed is also increased to 299km/h.

Three new driving systems are also offered with the 2011 CL AMG range, including Direct-Steer, Torque Vectoring Brake and Crosswind Stabilisation, all designed to improve handling and safety.

Prowling behind the CL 63 AMG in the two-car line-up is the 2011 CL 65 AMG, powered by an updated version of the previous 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 engine, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. 

Power for the V12 is up over its predecessor, now producing 463kW. Torque remains unchanged at 1000Nm, and the 0-100km/h is covered in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is limited to 300km/h. Fuel consumption is listed at 14.0 l/100km, making for a 3.5 percent improvement.

Standard features include Mercedes' COMAND infotainment system with voice control, 11 speakers and an eight-inch display.

Bi-Xenon headlamps with active curve illumination also figure among the CL AMG range's features, along with an electronic boot closer and four-level massage, and 14-way heated and active ventilated front seats.
