Mazda Australia has announced availability of the new 2011 Mazda MX-5 Special Edition. The strictly-limited new model comes as Mazda celebrates the production of 900,000 MX-5 cars.

More than a mere badge and paint job, the Special Edition has been developed to enhance the MX-5's established reputation as one of the world's best handling sports cars.

Just 200 of the MX-5 Special Edition variants will be built, adding Bilstein-tuned suspension to the nimble convertible's handling package, and a bright-painted strut tower bar provides a stylish finish to the suspension set-up.

“The Mazda MX-5 is an iconic car with enthusiasts across the world making it the best-selling two seater roadster of all-time," Mazda Australia's Alastair Doak said.

Offering a limited number of MX-5 Special Editions to Australian consumers will ensure it appeals to the enthusiasts out there who are seeking something a little different.”

New 17-inch alloy wheels are featured, while two new colours - Dolphin Grey Mica and Sparkling Black Mica - join the existing Aluminium Metallic as the available paint choices.

Inside, chrome meter rings and air vent bezels act as highlights to the grey coloured leather seats, leather steering wheel and leather handbrake. Grey highlight stitching is also featured.

The Mazda MX-5 Special Edition has a Manufacturer’s List Price (MLP) of $47,200.
