Honda Australia has started beating the drum about its new entry-level 'sports-inspired' CBR250R.

Expected to land in dealerships in March, Honda is celebrating the release with an offer of the "first service free" for bikes purchased before May 31, 2011 (conditions apply, natch).

With a liquid-cooled all-new 249.4cc single-cylinder engine, four-valve DOHC cylinder head, PGM-FI fuel injection and six-speed transmission, the CBR250R will be targeted to beginning riders and those looking for a light but responsive and refined road bike.

For beginners, the addition of optional ABS - a world first for a 250cc-class road sports bike - will add to its appeal, as will sports-bike style, a comfortable riding position and sharp handling.

Available in black, red and silver or 'pearl' blue, the CBR250R will hit dealerships at $5490 for the standard model, $5990 for the ABS model (plus on-road and statutory charges).
