Ford Australia has today announced availability of the 2011 FPV GS sedan and ute, powered by the company's new 'Miami' supercharged 5.0 litre V8. The new engine sees out the long-serving 5.4 litre 'Boss' V8.

Entering as FPV's first-ever supercharged engine and based on Ford's global 'Coyote' V8, the Miami is made up of components sourced both from Ford US and from local suppliers, including a Harrop supercharger.

Other local parts include the crankshaft damper, accessory drive, sump, exhaust manifolds and intake manifold.

The addition of the GS sedan and Ute to the permanent FPV line-up follows the launch last year of the limited-edition GS, introduced to test the market for a distinctive entry-level FPV model.

“Last year’s limited-edition GS simply reinforced what we suspected, that there is absolutely a market for an entry-level FPV model,” FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

“The GS provides our customers with a more affordable entry into the range. It broadens the market for potential FPV purchasers, and at the same time delivers tremendous value."

Mr Barret said that the GS represents the company's progress, its new V8 matching the output of the outgoing Boss 5.4 litre V8, but out-performing it "in every way."

“It’s faster and it’s more fuel efficient, but perhaps most importantly, the supercharged configuration provides a tremendous ‘drive’ … this is a fun car, and we think it’s going to be enormously successful for us.”

The GS version of the Miami 5.0 litre supercharged V8 produces 315kW and 545Nm of torque, while the previous GS produced 302kW and 551Nm of torque.

Those figures jump significantly for the upcoming GT however, the top-shelf version of the supercharged V8 producing 335kW and 570Nm of torque.

Even though engine displacement has dropped by 400cc, maximum torque is now delivered much lower in the rev range, with peak torque available at just 2000rpm for the GS.

FPV has yet to reveal performance figures for the new GS or any other models in the 2011 line-up.

Picking up the limited-edition GS’ stripe graphics on the bottom of the doors, the 2010 version adds bonnet stripes and Boss 315 identification graphics.

The five-spoke alloy wheels have also carried over, now in a silver finish rather than graphite. FPV branding has been increased, with badging on the steering wheel, instrument cluster and key fob, plus a new-design build badge.

Eleven exterior colours are offered on the sedan, 10 on the Ute, with three contrasting stripe colour options and a further three interior trim colours.

Automatic transmission is offered as a no-cost option.

Pricing and Availability

Manufacturer’s List Price for the new FPV GS sedan is $56,990 and $51,990 for the Ute.
