2011 Ford Mondeo Availability And Pricing Announced

This is just a little over a year since Australian buyers saw the arrival of the MB Mondeo (August 2009), and just six months after the announcement in May of the diesel wagon.

While not a major rework, the facelifted and re-powered MC Mondeo range brings the ageing but still stylish sedan in-line with Ford's more recent design directions.

"The Ford Mondeo is already an excellent example of balancing the right mix of equipment and technology with the right price in a car that is beautifully designed and packaged. These generous additions simply build on this winning formula," Ford Australia CEO Marin Burela said today.

The most obvious changes are upfront, with a new face that bears the latest evolution in Ford's 'Kinetic' design language (similar to the new 2011 Focus), the MC Mondeo is likely to be the last revision to the current third-generation shape.

While the restyled front-end gets a new bumper and bonnet, the rear end gets a number of smaller but significant tweaks in the form of subtly-restyled taillights and minor updates to the bumper design.

Ford's 2.0 litre in-line four-cylinder EcoBoost engine has already made its way into the Mondeo line-up overseas, but Ford Australia has opted to leave its new EcoBoost engine out of the local range for now. In the medium term, this will leave the Mondeo to soldier on with the 118kW 2.3 litre Duratec petrol engine.

Speaking with TMR, Ford Australia's Peter Fadeyev said that while the EcoBoost engine will be absent initially from local MC model line-up, the EcoBoost engine/s will not be absent from the Australian Mondeo line-up forever (but a debut is likely to wait until after the arrival of the EcoBoost Falcon in late 2011 or early 2012).

The range-topping XR5 Turbo is also conspicuously absent from the 2011 Mondeo line-up: thanks to Europe's tightening emissions laws, Ford has cancelled production of its 2.5 litre turbocharged engine.

Powered by an updated Euro V-compliant version of the current 2.0 litre Duratorq TDCi engine, the new Mondeo diesel range will offer 120kW (up 17kW) and 340Nm of torque (up 20Nm).

Fuel consumption for the LX diesel hatch is also significantly improved, listed at 5.9 l/100km, while all other TDCi models list a figure of 6.2 l/100km.

Safety

A raft of new driver safety features will accompany the updated Mondeo. For the Mondeo Titanium TDCi specifically, these new features will include Driver Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Adjustable Speed Limiting and Automatic High Beam headlights.

Together, the Mondeo Titanium and Titanium TDCI will offer a Blind Spot Information System and LED day-time running lights as standard.
