FORD IS SET to follow January's unveiling of the 2011 Ford Focus with a preview of a Focus wagon variant at this week's Geneva Motor Show, according to reports today.

The Focus wagon, previewed in our rendering above, is expected to be offered in Europe initially before spreading to other global markets later in 2011.

Featuring the same 'Kinetic' styling as its hatch and sedan siblings, the Focus wagon will likely feature hints of the Mondeo wagon - itself due for an update in the next year.

Ford has so far offered no official word on any Focus variants beyond the already-revealed five-door hatch, but if the model's history is any indication, we should eventually see wagon, convertible and three-door (including the XR5) variants join the line-up.

In regular spec, the Focus three-door and wagon models would likely be powered by the same direct-injected 1.6 litre petrol and Duratorq diesel engines as its five-door sibling, along with the brand new direct-injected 2.0 litre petrol engine with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT).

In XR5 Turbo trim, the Focus will likely draw power from Ford's turbo-charged 2.0 litre EcoBoost engine - also scheduled to join the Ford Falcon range next year and the Volvo line-up later this year.

The 2.0 litre EcoBoost engine develops 205kW and 379Nm of torque in concept form, compared to the current XR5 Turbo's 165kW turbo-charged 2.5 litre Duratec engine.

It's all speculation for now, but with the Geneva Motor Show kicking off this week, we will know soon enough.
