How time flies. Launched in 2008, the current fifth-generation Ford Fiesta will likely be due for a mild update within the next year, just as its predecessor benefited from a mild facelift three years after its 2002 debut.

As with the 2011 Ford Mondeo update revealed for Europe in late June, the updated Fiesta is expected to maintain its gaping maw, but with the flanking nondescript fog lights replaced by daytime-running LED light strips and triangular foglight housings.

Other cosmetic updates are likely to remain minimal; the sharply styled and still relatively fresh Fiesta holding its own on the styling front.

Similarly, technical updates are unlikely, although an intercooler-equipped Fiesta was spied testing earlier this year, suggesting an XR4 Turbo may feature in the 2011 Fiesta line-up.

Powered by the turbo-charged EcoBoost version of Ford's new 88kW 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine, the Fiesta ST / XR4 Turbo is expected to produce around 125-130kW.
