2011 Bentley Mulsanne V8 Engine Detailed In New Video

BENTLEY HAS RELEASED a new video documenting the steps in building the engines destined for the new 2011 Mulsanne, a process which takes 26 hours and includes 700 individual parts.

The 6.75 litre hand-built engine produces 377kW at 4200rpm and a monstrous 1020Nm of torque, available from 1750rpm. Despite its 2585kg kerb weight, the Mulsanne will power to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds.

Variable cam phasing and cylinder shutdown result in reduced fuel consumption. Although specific fuel economy figures have yet to be revealed, Bentley says it has achieved a 15 percent improvement over the Mulsanne's predecessor, the Arnage.

Lightweight internal components, new tuning and flow-optimised intake and exhaust tracts boost power and torque.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is mated to the new V8, and drivers can manually select gears via a pair of column-mounted paddle shifters.
