WHILE WE WAIT to see whether Volkswagen will bring the company's new corporate styling to its four-door coupe, a new update to the 2010 Passat CC gives buyers the option to increase passenger seating from four to five.

Volkswagen Australia has yet to announce whether the fifth pew - which sees a bench seat added to the rear row for an extra 100 euros - will be offered in Australia.

Volkswagen has added the options for a fifth seat to the 2010 Passat CC in response to customer feedback, indicating that the stylish four-door coupe is as appealing to families as it is to empty-nesters.

TMR drove both the diesel and V6 versions of the Passat CC early last year.

Looking at the rear seats, we concluded that while Volkswagen had undoubtedly done its research, some buyers would likely see the rear row's absent middle seat as a disadvantage.

Whether the extra seat comes to the Australian model's options list remains to be seen, and TMR is awaiting comment from Volkswagen Australia.
