THE 2010 Toyota Hybrid Camry has been awarded a 5-Star rating in the Federal Government's Green Vehicle Guide (GVG), making it the first Australian-built vehicle to achieve top points.

The rating confirms Toyota Australia's expectations, following its prediction in January that the Hybrid Camry would achieve a 5-Star result thank to its 6.0 l/100km fuel consumption rating.

The Hybrid Camry's Green Vehicle Guide testing also confirmed its CO2 emissions rating, listed as 142g/km.

While the absence of a passenger seatbelt alert and a risk to a driver's knees in a crash has kept the Hybrid Camry from achieving a 5-Star ANCAP crash safety rating, Toyota can lay claim to having three models among the 15 vehicles in the Australian market to achieve a 5-Star GVG rating.

The 2010 Toyota Prius lists fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures of 3.9 l/100km and 89g/km respectively, while the most efficient Yaris models list 6.0 l/100km and 141g/km figures.

The Prius tops the Green Vehicle Guide's 'Top Performers' list, followed by the likes of the Smart fortwo, the Suzuki Alto, and Fiat's 500 and Punto models.
