THE OFFICIAL REVEAL of the all-new 2010 Saab 9-5 is now less than a week away, according to a new countdown launched on Saab's global website this week.

Destined for its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, the countdown shows that Saab is set to pull back the covers much earlier than the motor show's September 17 opening day.

Late last month, a series of official images of the new 9-5 leaked online, exopsing just about every angle inside and out of the new Saab 9-5 - the first all-new large sedan from Saab since the introduction of the current 9-5 thirteen years ago.

Up front, the influence of the streamlined, chrome-bordered grille and headlights of the current 9-5 is apparent in the new model, while the rear end is treated to black and red taillights, featuring an LED strip along the bottom of each.

The profile of the all-new Saab 9-5 bears unique styling, with a 'blackout' treatment applied to the A and B pillars, and a long and almost coupe-like C pillar flowing seamlessly into the high rear deck.

The 2010 Saab 9-5 is built on a lengthened and revised version of GM’s front-wheel-drive Epsilon II platform - which underpins the Opel Insignia - stretching over five metres and riding on a 2840mm wheelbase (140mm longer than the current model).

Power will come from a range of petrol and turbodiesel engines, including a 260kW petrol 3.6 litre V6, a 157kW 2.0 litre four-cylinder and an efficient 2.8 litre V6. An all-wheel-drive setup is expected to be offered with the top-of-the-line V6.

Production is expected to start toward the end of this year, before debuting in showrooms as a 2010 model.
