RENAULT HAS REVEALED the first of its new Gordini-badged Renault Sport models, in the form of the Twingo Gordini RS.

While the Twingo is not offered in Australia, the Gordini RS version offers a glimpse of the upcoming Clio Gordini RS' styling - a car we will see locally, Renault Australia's Julie Leconte told TMR today.

"The Clio Gordini RS will be launched next year. We do have plans to have the Clio Gordini RS in Australia, but timing can't be confirmed at this stage," Ms Leconte said.

The Twingo Gordini RS is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine, producing 100kW. Renault says the engine has been specially tuned to provide a distinctive engine pitch under acceleration.

The Gordini-badged Twingo RS is finished in the classic Malte Blue Gordini colour, with two white racing stripes (as tradition demands).

The foglamp surrounds, exterior mirror housings and lip spoiler all gain a contrasting white finish, and Gordini Series badging announces the car's heritage.

Aluminium alloy 17-inch wheels with either blue or black highlights round out the external tweaks.

Renault Sport seats feature inside with blue and black quilted Gordini-badged upholstery.

Blue leather door-panel inserts, a blue and black steering wheel with two white stripes, blue gearlever bellows and Gordini-badged gear knob make up the bulk of the interior highlights.

The Twingo Gordini RS will get its proper European unveiling in January, with sales set to begin in March.
