HOT ON THE HEELS of news last month that an upgraded 2.5 litre diesel will find its way into the European-market Navara, Nissan has today announced availability of the upgraded D40 Navara ST-X Dual Cab in Australia.

Featuring a revised version of the current 2.5 litre diesel engine, the updated Navara ST-X also sports a number of cosmetic updates inside and out.

“With class-leading diesel power and torque, improved fuel economy, lower emissions, more safety equipment, better quality and a refreshed visual appeal, the new Navara is well-positioned to attract even more customers to its ranks,” Dan Thompson, CEO of Nissan Australia, said.

“It offers performance and equipment advantages over its closest rivals that the market will find hard to ignore, particularly versions equipped with the new high-output turbo-diesel engine,” he said.


The updated Navara ST-X Dual Cab has been given a front-end makeover for 2010, including a new bonnet and revised grille.

The front bumper assembly is also new, its more rounded and sportier shape adding 80mm to the Navara's overall length.

While the bulk of the Navara's cosmetic tweaks are up front, new six-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels are also featured.

Nissan says one of the key benefits to the redesigned front-end is a slight improvement to the Navara's drag coefficient, down from 0.38 to 0.37.

Two new colours are also available, with 'Electric Blue' and 'Flame Red' joining the palette.


Nissan has worked to boost the interior quality for the updated Navara ST-X Dual Cab, adding new switchgear, revised door trims, new seat fabric, chrome highlights and revised dials.

The armrests and doorpads are now trimmed with thicker foam, along with a revised shape to make them more comfortable.

Practical changes include larger door pockets that can hold a thicker map book and a one-litre drink bottle.

Switchgear changes include a new all-wheel drive command control switch, and the steering-mounted phone and audio controls are now illuminated.

Chrome finishers have been added to the automatic transmission surround and to the instrument binnacle.

A new centre-floor console and C-cluster has been designed to create a more style-conscious interior. 


Features new to the Navara ST-X Dual Cab include dual-zone climate-control, power-folding mirrors, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, six-speaker sound system, auxiliary audio input and a drive computer.

Switch-operated AWD mode selection, a four-channel Utili-track load restrain system, 60/40 split-folding rear seats round out the Navara ST-X's noteworthy features. 

Safety is well covered with a full complement of airbags fitted to the new Series 4 Navara ST-X as standard, including driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags.

ESP, EBD and Brake Assist also figure among the Navara ST-X's standard features, along with height-adjustable headlights, and three-point seatbelts for all seats.

Active head restraints are another critical safety feature fitted to the new Navara ST-X.


Nissan has massaged an 11 percent increase in both power and torque from the Navara's proven 2.5 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine.

The reworked diesel now develops 140kW and 450Nm (the current Australian-market Navara diesel offers 126kW and 403Nm of torque).

Changes to the punchy diesel include a new direct injection system, now running at 2000 bar - up from 1800 bar - resulting in a finer fuel spray and a more complete combustion.

A new cylinder head with parallel ports is also featured, increasing the swirl efficiency of the combustion process and smoothing the intake and exhaust flow.

A new variable nozzle turbo (VNT) with electric control replaces the previous hydraulic system, generating quicker responses.

While power is up, fuel consumption and emissions are down. The updated Navara ST-X, fitted with the six-speed manual transmission, lists a fuel consumption figure of 8.5 l/100km - 1.3 litres (13 percent) less fuel than before.

The five-speed automatic saves even more fuel, down from 10.5 l/100km to 9.0 l/100km - a 14 percent improvement.

CO2 emissions are also substantially improved, dropping 40g/km to 224g/km.

The 198kW V6 4.0-litre petrol engine currently offered in the ST-X continues unchanged.
