ORIGINALLY REVEALED in 2001, the MV Agusta Brutale line started life with a 750cc engine, growing to 910cc and 989cc in the years since.
The growth spurt continues this week, with MV Agusta launching the 998cc 2010 Brutale 990R and 1078cc 1090RR at Italy's Misano racing circuit.
Developing 103kW and 105Nm of torque, the 990R is down 2kW (but up 2Nm) on the old model - the missing numbers victims of the EU's strict new Euro4 emissions laws.
The Brutale 1090RR, powerful in its own right, shares the 990R's restricted output. Weighing 5kg more than the outgoing model, the 1078cc 1090RR develops 108kW and 115Nm of torque - 6kW and 1Nm down on the outgoing model.
Visually, the overall theme remains virtually unchanged, but MV Agusta claims that over 85 percent of the Brutale's components and instruments have been replaced.
Among the new features, there's a new headlight, new instrument cluster, a restyled exhaust and a new tail, but for the most part the 2010 model is, cosmetically, not so different to the model it succeeds.

The MV Agusta brand is distributed in Australia by The Paul Feeney Group. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the 990R and 1090RR are expected to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2010.
