The guys at autoevolution have produced two speculative renderings of the Mazda 1 based on the Kiyora Concept, which was first shown at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.

Their concept drops the Kiyora’s radical, water-flow inspired exterior in favor of more conventional steel panels.

The size is the same, while the shape retains defining elements of the concept such as a swept-forward cabin, which abruptly terminates at the rear of the glasshouse with some very sharp edges. We like it, but keep in mind the real deal could look entirely different.

Mazda's corporate face (replete with wide-toothed grin) is transplanted onto the 1's nose, with fog-lights climbing alongside the center grille.

The engines will boast an environmentally-friendly approach and are likely to be a choice between a 1.3 litre and 1.5 litre. Rumor is that an all-electric version is also planned.

Autoexpress speculates that Mazda have already decided on a 1.3 litre direct injection petrol engine, with Smart Idle Stop System that would place the small car in the 90g/km CO2 emission range.

A concept version of the Mazda 1 is rumoured to make its world debut in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show and may possibly go on sale in 2010.
