LEXUS HAS TODAY announced availability of the updated-for-2010 Lexus LS 600hL, first revealed at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The updated LS 600hL features redesigned seating, new equipment, a new ECO driving mode and revised driving dynamics.
Although outwardly similar to the model it succeeds (only a new grille, headlamp design, front and rear bumpers and new sideskirts separate it from the 2009 model), the 2010 LS 600h L boasts a number of mechanical differences.
The updated LS 600hL features a new four-bar grille and front bumper with redesigned air intakes and fog lamps.
The headlights, finished in what Lexus describes as 'hybrid blue', have also been restyled.
A new one-piece rocker moulding is the stand-out change to the LS 600hL's profile, along with new door mirrors that twin LED turn signals and puddle lamps, with chrome highlights.
At the rear, the new lower bumper features vertical fins to direct airflow from beneath the vehicle.
The paintwork of the LS 600hL has been treated with Lexus' Self-Restoring Coat, helping to maintain its finish for longer.
Inside, the LS 600hL features a redesigned instrument binnacle with a new full-colour TFT LCD display.
The restyled instrument cluster features a three-ring analogue dial with a central speedometer, a tachometer and coolant temperature gauge to the left, and a fuel gauge and hybrid system indicator to the right
A customisable display features in the centre of the speedometer, displaying vehicle information, turn-by-turn navigation instructions and hybrid system status.
Designed to give dashboard a strong horizontal emphasis, the upper air vents have been set apart from the instrumentation on the centre console.
The EMV multi-display touch screen has large switches and rearranged layout for the audio controls. A new metallic finish has been applied to the audio switchgear.
The front seats are now fitted with new active headrests as standard, activated by a signal from the airbag ECU in the event of a rear impact.
In the rear, outboard seats benefit from new adjustable headrests, along with greater side bolstering for improved hip support.
A new Rear Seat Relaxation package can now be specced for five-seat models.
Storage is also improved, with reductions in the size of the rear air conditioning unit and hybrid battery compartment increasing boot capacity by 40 litres.
The LS 600hL gains a 19-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System, along with USB connectivity and iPod compatibility.
The LS 600hL features an upgraded hybrid powertrain, which is now Euro V compliant and features a fuel-saving ECO mode.
Efficiency is improved by better management of the LS 600hL's climate control system and throttle mapping, but despite the fuel economy gains, output is unchanged at 327kW and 520Nm.
Combined, the LS 600hL 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine and 165kW electric motor produce a maximum 327kW of power and propel the LS 600hL from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds.
The LS 600hL's battery pack has also been redesigned and repackaged, freeing up some extra luggage space in the boot in the process. The airconditioning system for the rear cabin is repackaged too, and uses up less boot space.
Braking hardware is upgraded for 2010, and 380mm ventilated front disc brakes with six-piston callipers developed by Brembo are now mounted behind the front wheels.
The 2010 Lexus LS600hL is available now. The four-seat model starts at $243,900, while the five-seat model starts at $250,900. Prices are Manufacturer's List Price only and do not include dealer-delivery or statutory charges.
