THE 2010 LEXUS IS 250C hasn't made it to Australian showrooms yet, but demand overseas already has production struggling to keep up.
Due in Australia's Lexus dealerships in the third quarter of 2009, the Lexus IS 250C - sold internationally in both 250C and 350C guise - is being built at the brand's Kyushu plant in Japan at a rate of about 1200 cars each month.
According to Scott Wracher, Lexus' General Manager for the Eastern region of the US market, it's only just keeping up with consumer demand.
Speaking with US magazine Wards Auto, Wracher said: ?I don't think we're going to outstrip demand with our build rate.?
?There's a lot of value in the IS compared to our competition,? he added.
Focusing on the younger buyer with its "Live a little. A lot." advertising campaign, the convertible version of the IS has been building interest in the US market. Competition is fierce, however, with Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Infiniti all offering topless models at similar price points.
While details for the Australian-delivered IS 250C arriving later this year have yet to be announced, comparative pricing is likely to fall in line with the difference between the IS 250 sedan and its European competitors.
