THE 2010 LEXUS GX460 has been revealed ahead of its debut at this week's Auto Guangzhou motor show in China, the second-generation model in Lexus's overseas mid-range off-roader line-up.

Based on the 2010 Toyota Prado, the GX460 gets a Lexus-specific chrome grille, new headlights and revised bumpers, while the rear end features subtler LED taillights.

The interior features a more luxurious trim and specification than its Toyota-badged cousin, with a dash, instrument cluster and centre stack entirely unique to the Lexus model.

The 2010 GX460 is powered by a 225kW/446Nm 4.6 litre V8 engine and takes drive to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox and Torsen four-wheel-drive system. The torque-sensing Torsen centre differential directs 60 percent of drive to the rear wheels under normal conditions, while up to 70 percent can be sent to the rear axle to enhance cornering stability.

Toyota's newly-developed Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System is standard on the GX460 and actively reduces body roll by actuating small hydraulic cylinders attached to the front and rear anti-roll bars.

A multi-mode Adaptive Variable Suspension is optional, and features electronic dampening adjustment to tailor ride quality between soft and firm.

Like its LX and RX stablemates, the GX460 is packed with luxury equipment. Heated and ventilated front seats, climate control, rain-sensing wipers, dusk-sensing headlamps, a reversing camera and leather upholstery are standard, as is a nine-speaker premium stereo system with Bluetooth integration.

Heated second-row seats, three-zone climate control, sat nav, rear-seat DVD players and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo are available as options.

Active afety equipment comprises stability control, traction control, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, along with an optional fatigue-detecting Driver Monitor system and an accident-detecting Pre-Collision System. A lane departure warning alerts the driver when the car strays across the painted line.

A total of 10 airbags are fitted to the GX460: dual front airbags, side airbags for the first and second row, driver and front passenger knee airbags and full-length curtain airbags.

The GX460 is expected to appear in US showrooms in early 2010, although an Australian release is unknown at this point.
