WITH THE ADDITION of side and curtain airbags to the entry-level SX model, the entire 2010 Hyundai i30 range bears a 5-Star ANCAP crash safety rating.

Previously, side and curtain airbags could only be had with the i30 SX as part of the optional 'Protectz' pack, priced at $700.

An earlier version of the Protectz pack also added ESP stability control, originally an option for the SX but made standard for the 2009 model year.

Covering both the hatch and wagon variants, the SX joins the SLX and SR grades with the new airbags featured as standard equipment.

The 2008 Hyundai i30 CRDi (all grades) was voted Runner-up in TMR's Best Drive, Best Value awards last year.

The 2010 Hyundai i30 hatch range starts from $20,390 for the SX petrol five-speed manual, through to the i30 SR petrol four-speed auto, priced from $28,540.

The 2010 Hyundai i30cw wagon range starts at $21,890 for the i30cw SX petrol five-speed manual, through to the i30cw SLX CRDi four-speed auto, priced from $29,890.
