With its Australian debut scheduled for this week, the updated-for-2010 Hyundai i20 has been revealed overseas, bringing cleaner running and modest aerodynamic and interior updates.

While the i20's local specifications remain unknown for now, the 2010 update sees a small spoiler added to the bottom of the front bumper, improving airflow behind the wheels and reducing CO2 emissions for the 58kW 1.2 litre petrol engine to 119g/km (an improvement of 5g/km).

Similarly, the 75kW 1.4 litre petrol engine now boasts CO2 emissions of 129g/km - down by 13g/km.

The introduction of Hyundai's six-speed manual transmission sees the 85kW 1.6 litre diesel engine gain similar improvements, its emissions dropping 6g/km to 110g/km and fuel consumption improving by 7.2 percent.

Other efficiency-minded updates include the addition of an alternator management system, the use of low-friction engine oil and an Eco Drive gear shift indicator in the instrument panel.

Along with the Eco Drive shift indicator, the interior of the updated i20 sees new blue instrument lighting in place of the outgoing model's red, and Bluetooth handsfree connectivity has been added as standard equipment on all but the entry-level model.

The 2010 Hyundai i20 is set to make its Australian debut tomorrow, and The Motor Report will be attending the launch. Keep an eye out for our 'first drive' review.
