We’ve followed the progress of the Korea-only Hyundai Equus for a while now, and even though it’s not likely to make it overseas, we’re still pleased to see Hyundai competing at the top level – even if only in Korea.

A couple of leaked images of what is presumably the production Equus have surfaced online, and it’s a genuine looker.  With styling cues clearly inspired by the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Lexus – and even a little helping of Bentley – there’s no doubting the Korean giant’s intentions with the third-gen Equus.

The 2010 Hyundai Equus will be available with two engine options: the 216kW (290hp) 3.8 litre Lambda V6 with 315Nm (233lb-ft) of torque, and the 4.6 litre Tau V8 making 273kW (366hp) and 440Nm (324lb-ft) of torque.  Both engines are also found in the Genesis luxury sedan.  Hyundai is also expected to add a more powerful 5.0 litre V8 to the lineup.

The Equus, as the flagship of the Hyundai range, also plays host to a range of technological first for a Korean car, such as Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Parking Guidance System (PGS), Pre-Safe Seatbelts (PSB), Advanced Front Lighting System (AFLS), and TFT-LCD dashboard cluster with visual warning system.

With these leaked images, there’s likely to be a lot more visuals and information to come in the next week or so.  If you’re interested in cars you’ll probably never drive except maybe on holiday… stay tuned.
