THE HOLDEN COMMODORE SS may be alive and well in Australia, but its American twin, the Pontiac G8, is on its last legs now that the Pontiac badge has been retired and GM CEO Fritz Henderson has ruled out shifting the car to another brand.

As a nod to the early passing of a potential hero for the Pontiac brand, US tuning house Hurst Performance has teamed with automotive legend 'Doc' Watson to create a pair of special edition Hurst/Pontiac H.O. models.

Based on the SS-based Pontiac G8 and US-only G6 convertible, the 'Executive Hot Rods' will be presented in Hurst's trademark white/gold and black/gold colour schemes.

With Pontiac about to disappear from showrooms in America, these could be some of the last special edition vehicles to wear the badge. In total, only 52 examples will be produced.

Hurst forged wheels, a Hurst shifter, suspension upgrades and a re-trimmed interior all appear on the features list.

Both models will also receive a supercharger.

Full specifications and pricing is to be released on August 1st.

While the Hurst offerings are exclusive to US buyers, Australian performance Commodore enthusiasts can look to the offerings of famed Melbourne-based tuners Corsa Specialised Vehicles, if they want something a little different than the standard HSV and Holden fare.

The CSV website hasn't been touched in a good five years, but the company is still going strong, building custom and packaged kits for Holden enthusiasts.
