Great Wall Motors has announced availability of the 2010 Great Wall V240 Single Cab in Australia, following the launch of the Dual Cab variant almost exactly one year ago.

Priced from $17,990 drive-away - barely more than a decent entry-level small car - the V240 Single Cab 4x2 features a drop-side alloy tray, alloy wheels, air-conditioning, power-steering, remote central-locking, CD player and power windows.

The 4x4, offered with the same feature set, starts at $20,990 drive-away.

Standard safety features across the V240 range includes dual air bags, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake force distribution.

As with the Dual Cab, the V240 Single Cab pair is powered by a 2.4 litre, in-line four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 100kW at 5250rpm and 200Nm of torque at 2500-3000rpm.

Fuel consumption is listed at 10.7 l/100km on the combined cycle.

Ric Hull, Managing Director of Great Wall importer Ateco, is confident that the Single Cab will boost V240 sales significantly.

"The twin cab V240 has proven to be extremely reliable and very popular with a wide range of customers over the past year,” Mr Hull said.

“We are optimistic that this very keenly priced single cab V240 will be embraced just as enthusiastically.”

So far this year, Great Wall has sold a total of around 210 of its V240 utes, in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations, holding around 3.3 percent of the market.

The Great Wall line-up continues to suffer the absence of a diesel engine in its line-up, a factor likely keeping away many buyers that might otherwise consider the V240. Great Wall is believed to have a diesel engine in development however, along with an automatic transmission.
