2010 Citroen C5 Gets New Engines In Europe, Australian Offerings Unclear

THE CITROEN C5 is set to gain a pair of new Euro V-compliant engines in 2010, one a diesel and the other a small turbo-charged petrol engine.

It is unclear whether these engines will make it to the Australian C5 line-up, although the more powerful 3.0 litre V6 is expected to arrive early next year.

The new 2.0 litre diesel engine, which includes a particulate filter for Euro V compliance, develops 121kW and, when mated to a manual transmission, consumes just 5.6 l/100km on the combined cycle.

Paired with the automatic transmission, the diesel's fuel consumption increases to 6.9 l/100km.

The turbo-charged 1.6 litre petrol engine, which also features in other PSA models and BMW's MINI range, replaces the 106kW European-market 2.0 litre petrol engine.

Matching the diesel's power output (but certain to offer less torque), the 1.6 litre petrol engine develops 121kW while consuming a slightly higher 7.1 l/100km.

Citroen Australia would not comment on its 2010 range, but TMR believes that along with the 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine likely to arrive next year, the more efficient small-capacity petrol and diesel engines should also arrive.
