2010 Citroen C5 Gets New Engines For Australia

AS REPORTED LAST November, the Citroen C5 has gained a pair of new Euro V-compliant diesel engines for 2010. As of January, the new engines are available with the Australian-delivered C5.

The arrival of the new engines coincide with a new sports-inspired interior trim for the Comfort model.

Thanks to Europe's strict Euro V consumption and emissions laws, the new engines mean better performance and fuel economy for C5 buyers and a more environment-conscious carbon footprint.

The new 2.0 litre HDi turbo-diesel engine develops 120kW and 340Nm of torque. Paired with the automatic transmission, the diesel’s fuel consumption is just 6.9 l/100km.

Perhaps best of all for the more performance-minded, the new diesel allows the C5 to accelerate to 100km/h in 10 seconds - down from the previous engine's 12.8 seconds.

Citroen says the new diesel is similar in physical size to the outgoing engine, but features a new cylinder head, new pistons and combustion chamber designed specifically to work with the 200 bar high-pressure injection system.

The new diesel benefits from a new, more powerful turbo and new engine management system while offering lower noise, vibration and harshness levels and long service intervals.

The new 3.0 litre HDi diesel engine, which replaces the previous 2.7 litre engine, develops 177kW and 450Nm of torque - up from the 2.7 litre engine's 150Nm and 440Nm of torque.

Despite offering more power, fuel consumption is improved over the outgoing engine, down from 8.4 litres to 7.4 l/100km.

The bigger diesel's 0-100km/h time is improved as well, dropping from 9.6 seconds to 7.9 seconds.

Like the smaller diesel, the 3.0 litre engine benefits from larger turbochargers, along with an all-new injection system.
