BMW has announced that the latest iteration of the long-nosed Z4 roadster will be making its Australian debut at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show. It will also be the car's first public appearance since being unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

BMW will be bringing the hi-po Z4 sDrive35i model to Melbourne which packs a twin-turbocharged 3.0 litre six under its lengthy bonnet and cranks out a substantial 225kW (302hp) and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque.

When combined with BMW's new seven-speed dual-clutch tranny, that's enough to take the Roadster from nought to 100km/h (62mph) in just 5.1 seconds.

The show car also gets the optional Adaptive M suspension kit, which lowers the car by 10mm and features electronically-adjustable dampers. Coupled with the standard Dynamic Drive Control - which allows switchable throttle, gearshift and steering settings - the Z4 Roadster should be one flexible sportscar.

With a fuel economy rating of 9.4 l/100km and a cargo capacity of 310 litres with the roof up, it should also be a reasonably practical one too.

The 2010 BMW Z4 will be on display at the BMW stand at the Melbourne Motor Show from February 27. We'll be there to check it out for ourselves, and we expect to hear more about sale dates and pricing during the press preview. Watch this space.
