BMW Australia has announced local availability of the diesel-powered 520d sedan, following the June launch of the all-new 2010 BMW 5 Series sedan. Joining the 520d in November will also be the diesel range-topping 535d.
The 520d produces 135kW and 380Nm of torque via its four-cylinder turbodiesel, and fitted with BMW's eight-speed automatic transmission, it lists a fuel consumption figure of 5.2 l/100km. The 0-100km/h sprint can be covered in a claimed 8.1 seconds.
The 520d is fitted with Auto Start-Stop and, as with the rest of the 5 Series range, its four-cylinder diesel engine meets Europe's strict Euro V emissions standards.
BMW Group Australia Managing Director, Mr Stavros Yallouridis said the popularity of BMW diesel models is growing rapidly in Australia.
“BMW diesel engines are winning international accolades and challenging many preconceptions about diesel technology as a whole,” said Mr Yallouridis.
“The combination of enormous torque, blistering power and extraordinary fuel economy from our latest diesel engines is winning many fans in Australia,” he said.
Among its features, the 520d is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels, electric power steering, Head-Up Display and Park Distance Control.
Arriving later this year, the 535d is powered by BMW's TwinPower Turbo straight-six diesel, producing 220kW and 600Nm of torque, covering the 0-100km/h run in 5.7 seconds. Fitted with BMW's eight-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption is listed at 6.1 l/100km.
The 535d's features list includes 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights including washer system, rear view camera, electric seat adjustment with driver’s seat memory function, sports leather steering wheel, Comfort Access System and 12-speaker HiFi system.
