2009 SSC Ultimate Aero Now Packing More Power

Apparently being the confirmed top-speed world record holder isn't enough for the crew at Shelby Super Cars (SCC). The old Ultimate Aero punched out over 880kWs thanks to its twin-turbo V8 engine, but the 2009 model will up the ante and increase that figure to a mind-boggling 960kWs, 1287hp in the old money.

When combined with heavily revised aerodynamics, the spruced up Ultimate Aero is claimed to be capable of a staggering 434.5km/h (270mph) which would see it break its own world record.

The nose of the car came in for heavy revisions to minimise drag and improve airflow while carbon fibre louvers on the side intakes allow up to twenty-percent more air to pass through the car's radiators.

Perhaps surprisingly, braking has also been improved on the '09 Aero with SCC introducing the AeroBrake system. The adjustable rear spoiler system can pivot up to eight inches during braking, the speed and amount of movement depends on the braking applied. If required, the entire system can be de-activated with the push of a button.

Finally, SCC has also seen fit to revamp the interior with a redesigned dash, featuring carbon fibre accents, and a revised steering column. A new gauge cluster houses an analog speedo and tacho, which includes an integrated shift-light. A digital temperature control unit, a tyre pressure monitor, and a PC based Infotainment unit, which can also handle the car's diagnostics, complete the interior appointments.

There's no word on when or if Shelby Super Cars plans to contest its own top-speed record but - for the sake of sheer insanity - we're hoping the attempt will come in the not-too-distant future. The best just got better, so that leaves Bugatti and Porsche '9ff' with the balls in their court.
