FORGET FANTASY CONCEPT CARS with their outlandish designs and 'show-car only' features, the Spyker C8 Aileron has all that and more... and it's a fully-fledged production car.

Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker has released images and details of the C8 Aileron which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. Enthusiasts will be pleased to note that it's almost identical to the show-car on which it is based.

The most notable change between concept and reality is the repositioning and reshaping of the glass area and roof-line. The roof has been pushed back to improve aerodynamics; it also gives the car a cleaner look.

A redesigned rear diffuser and spoiler combine with a new front chin-spoiler to generate more downforce, while a larger front air dam improves cooling efficiency.

The new longer and wider wheel-base, as compared to Spyker's previous generation of cars, improves handling while a 1425kg (3142lbs) kerb weight ensures performance will match the car's stellar looks.

An Audi sourced 4.2L V8 engine provides 298kW (400hp)of power and 480Nm (354lb-ft) of torque which is sent to the rear wheels via a Getrag six-speed manual or ZF automatic gearbox. The auto, a first for Spyker, will see the C8 sprint to 100km/h from standstill in 4.5 seconds, on to a top speed of 300km/h (186mph).

The Aileron rides atop all-new front and rear double-wishbone suspension made from forged aluminium, where possible, to minimise weight. AP Racing has provided the calipers, adorned with the Spyker logo, with carbon ceramic brakes on offer in the near future.

Inside the cabin the C8 features everything you would come to expect from a vehicle of this calibre. GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, an MP3 compatible Kharma stereo and quilted leather are all standard fare.

Prices start at €189,990 (around AUD $332,500) and customers can choose from 16 base colours or, optionally, any colour so desired. Take a closer look at the Spyker C8 Aileron in the gallery below.
