2009 Porsche Cayenne Diesel: Three Day Melbourne Motor Show Appearance

Porsche really does think you can have too much of a good thing. Its on again, off again and now definitely on again Cayenne oiler will be popping into this year’s Melbourne Motor Show for just three days... no more, no less.

It will appear at the Motor Show from 5pm to 10pm on the opening Friday, then from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday until 1 March.

Porsche has raided the Audi parts bin and equipped the Cayenne Diesel with a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel engine that produces 176kW and 550Nm. This is the 'first ever' Porsche diesel and arguably the most sensible version of the Cayenne built to-date. That alone should be enough to ruffle a few die-hard feathers.

Porsche is commited to reducing fuel consumption across its vehicle range and the Cayenne diesel will certainly help. In-spite of its heft, the Cayenne diesel can manage an average fuel consumption of 9.3 litres per 100 km, with CO2 emissions of 244 grams per kilojoule.

The new Cayenne Diesel will go on sale in Australia in April 2009, priced from $101,990 with Tiptronic transmission as standard.

But that’s not all folks. The diesel Cayenne will be sharing Porsche’s floor space with the second generation Cayman and Boxter, both of which will be making their Australian debut.

Both models are now more powerful and more efficient thanks to all-new engines and the introduction of Porsche's acclaimed double-clutch gearbox.

With displacement bumped up to 2.9 litres, the newly developed flat six-cylinder engine develops 188kW in the entry level Boxster and 195kW in the entry level Cayman, an increase of 8kW and 15kW respectively over the outgoing 2.7 litre models.

The new Cayman and Boxster models are due to go on sale in March this year.
