Porsche has wheeled out three of their 2009 model 911’s for some Nurburgring shenanigans and as you do, let the lap times out of the bag during a press release.

Proving the shift-ability of their new PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) or dual clutch transmission was the PDK equipped, 2009 911S with a lap time of 7:50. This particular 911S was wearing “sport tyres” and featured PASM or Porsche Active Stability Management. The PDK gearbox is built by Getrag and is somewhat similar to BMW’s M-DCT transmission. It is said to shift 60 percent faster than the previous Tiptronic transmission.

Second fastest time was recorded by a manual version of the 2009 911S with a 7:58 lap time, with the third (also a manual) 2009 911S running four seconds slower again. There is no word on who the wheelsmiths were or exactly what a ‘sport tyre’ is.

Cadillac’s CTS-V four door sedan has recently completed a lap of the ‘Ring in 7:59 giving you an idea just what an extraordinary achievement this car is for GM. In the meantime, Nissan’s R35 GT-R has passed them all with a 7:29 lap time and is back in the change rooms having a quiet cigarette.

Porsche is yet to wheel out the PDK equipped 911 Turbo and GT2, so it’s not ‘Game Over’ just yet.
