Introduced back in 1998 and still going strong, the Peugeot 206 has been a sales success the world over. Over all those years since its release, it's changed little. Peugeot has now released the latest update to the range in the form of the 206+.

The facelift freshens up the loveable Pug just enough to keep it competitive, without looking like it's lost its way. Despite the changes, you'd almost need to put each model side by side to spot the differences unless you're a diehard 206 fan, and that's part of what will make the 206+ a successful facelift.

A new bonnet, headlights, and grille take care of changes to the front, aligning it more closely with the company's current design language.  Peugeot has also moved to modernise the interior, which, while still somewhat understated, is functional and, like the car, likely to age gracefully.

Peugeot will offer three engines for the European market kicking off with a 44kW (58hp) 1.1 litre petrol unit and progressing to a 55kW (73hp) 1.4 litre donk. The single diesel options is Peugeot’s 50kW (67hp) 1.4 litre HDi engine which emits a minuscule 110g/km of CO².

There's no word on pricing and availability just yet. Given that Peugeot stopped selling the 206 here in 2007 it's unlikely we'll be seeing the 206+, especially as it could cannabilise sales of its successor, the 207. We'll keep you posted if there is more to this story.
