Hot on the heels of rumours surrounding the possible release of an R35 GT-R Le-Man's edition, Nissan has confirmed the pricing and release date for the GT-R Spec-V. With an on-sale date pegged between January and February, the rumour is that Nissan might be pulling the wraps of the Spec-V at the 12th annual Nismo festival at Fuji Speedway later this month.

Expected to be packing an extra 75kWs, the Spec-V will receive a new exhaust, more boost and a re-calibrated computer to produce the extra push. A reduced kerb-weight (thanks to carbon-fibre body panels) will ensure the extra power goes further, while also improving braking and handling. Nissan will also throw in some new wheels, better brakes and improve the suspension to complete the package.

Now the bad news. If reports are accurate then a direct conversion of the Spec-V's expected pricing would see an Aussie price tag of almost $230,000. A sizeable increase over the $148,800 that Nissan Australia are currently quoting for the entry level GT-R. It is unlikely that Spec-V buyers (should the Spec-V even become available in Australia) will bat an eyelid at the price, but the price gap is likely to have the factory power (factory warranty) vs aftermarket modified power (voided warranty) debate raging for some time.

Of course, there is a lot more to the Spec-V package than an extra 75kWs.

What it does mean is more power and less weight in an even more focussed and finely honed version of our favourite giant killer. While The Insider remains somewhat nonplussed (he is currently tracking the red-tailed black Cockatoo through the Great Dividing Range), the very idea of the GT-R Spec-V has been raising temperatures and moistening a few brows in at TMR for longer than we care to remember.
