AMG is now offering a Sports package for the 2009 Mercedes Benz S Class and CL Class sedans, a first for both models.

AMG seems to be able to do no wrong when taking the magic-stick to the three-pointed star, and we like what we now see from Mercedes' in-house tuning division.

In keeping with the exclusive nature of the brand, some components in the package are not available separately.

Both models receive a new front bumper with large air intakes while the revised rear bumper now features an appealing black insert and rectangular stainless steel exhaust tips. New side skirts visually connect both ends to balance the lines.

Tasteful 19-inch light-weight alloy rims, shod in 255/40 rubber up and 275/40 out back, look the part without being ostentatious. Also available are 20-inch rims with the tyre profile dropping from 40 to 35.

It's not entirely visual, with perforated rotors and silver painted calipers appearing beneath the front wheels (complete with Mercedes Benz lettering).

The plush cabin now receives lashings of wood trim and a wood and leather-trimmed steering wheel. Velour floor mats and brushed aluminium sports pedals are also included.

The AMG Sports package is available for all S-Class models with a short or long wheelbase, as well as for the CL 500 and CL 500 4MATIC. Cost comes in between AUD$10,600 to $14,500 (€5831 and €7973).

The new E-Class Saloon, E-Class Coupé and the C-Class can also be fitted with the package.

For those of us a little less well-heeled, we'll just have to be content with feating our eyes on the gallery below.
