Earlier this year we drove the double-cab Mahindra Pik-Up for a week and it proved itself to be a simple, rugged and rather endearing offering from the Indian company. Sure, there were some rough edges, and some issues concerning its low safety rating at the time, but it was priced to appeal to buyers looking for a workhorse, something that wouldn’t cost a bomb and could take a beating. Reviewed with its intended purpose clearly in focus, the Pik-Up made sense.

Mahindra Automotive Australia (MAA) has today announced the arrival of its new cab/chassis variant, further expanding its Pik-Up range in Australia. The only one of its kind, the cab/chassis was developed by Mahindra & Mahindra specifically for the local market, adding versatility to the ‘value for money’ Pik-Up offering.

“Australian drivers use their utes in such varied ways that we needed to make the personalisation of the vehicle as easy as possible for our end user,” said Claire Tynan, CEO, MAA.

Mahindra Pik-Up customers will now be able to purchase the basic cab chassis model at what MAA are referring to as a “very competitive price” . It will then be a simple matter of the owner fitting the vehicle out to suit its intended purpose.

The basic design and features of the Pik-Up cab/chassis remain largely unchanged when compared to the style-side counterpart. All models have a towing capacity of 2.5 tonne and a one tonne + payload.

A new ‘Java Brown’ colour has been introduced, available only in the Dual Cab models, and all vehicles will have colour coded body parts (with the exception of the Apple Red). Metallic paint is also standard across the range (except for the white variants).

Functional upgrades include longer seatbelts (extended by 350 mm) for additional comfort, slotted brake-discs for better braking, and updated air-conditioning.

Entry level to the Pik-Up cab/chassis club begins with the Single Cab 4x2 model, priced at $19,990. MAA have also revised pricing for the rest of the Pik-Up range making it an even more attractive option for the value conscious buyer (see below).

MAA will be using an innovative online campaign with the tag line “What would you put on your NAKED Pik-Up” , to market the new cab/chassis variant. You can click through to this address www.nakedpikup.com.au and play the game, creating a Pik-Up of your choice through the personal selection of colours and preferred tray options.

“The feedback we’ve had about the vehicle since its launch last year has been extremely positive, and drivers love it. The cab/chassis variant will only strengthen the Mahindra Pik-Up’s position in the market as customers continue to look for cost effective solutions during this time.”
