A couple of weeks ago we brought you concept art of the upcoming third generation of Hyundai’s Equus model.  In the past, the Equus has rarely (if ever) seen a showroom floor that wasn’t on a South Korean street, but with the investment Hyundai is making in the 2009 model, that may well change.

The dedicated fans at Hyundai Blog have, they say, been informed that the top-spec Equus limousine will be powered by a 313kW 5.0-litre V8 and will set South Koreans back a whopping â‚©130,000,000 – or about AU$145,554.  Go ahead and pick your jaw up from the floor, I’ll wait.

Traditionally aimed at buyers looking at the BMW 7-series (around $240,000 for the 750i) and Mercedes-Benz S-class (upwards of $260,000 for the S500), even the top-spec Equus represents a considerable saving if you can live without the badge and… well, all the things that make the German marques as respected as they are.

Hyundai offers its larger cars at lower prices in the West than it does at home (as a means both of competing and - perhaps - of acknowledging its place on the Western totem).

The Equus is also expected to come with smaller engines and lower spec levels, including the 3.8 litre Lambda V6 and the 4. 6 litre Tau V8 mills found in the Hyundai Genesis, with which the Equus shares its platform – albeit stretched 177mm to suit its limousine profile.

In case you're wondering, the 5.0 litre V8 model will supposedly rocket to 100kmh in under six seconds.
