Fiat is rightly rather excited about the little 500 Abarth; so excited in fact that it is celebrating the European debut of the 500 Abarth by launching a limited edition version. And yes, it's got more power - quite a bit more. The standard Fiat 500 Abarth boasts 99kW, which has been upped to 118kW for the Limited Edition version. The result is a 0-100 time of 7.4 seconds for Fiat’s ultimate pocket rocket.

The revised engine for the Fiat 500 Abarth limited edition is a more powerful 1.4 Turbo T-Jet power unit that develops 118KW at 5750 rpm and a maximum torque of 230Nm at 3000 rpm. Other unique features include the adoption of the front and rear ventilated disc brakes, high performance front brake pads, a special ‘powered by BMC’ air filter, special low springs and 17" alloys painted white or titanium and complete with 205/40 R17 ZR 17 Pirelli P-zero Nero tyres.

The 500 Abarth Opening Edition is no stripped out Superleggera performance package either. There is plenty to ensure the comfort of driver and passenger alike, including an automatic climate control system, radio with CD and MP3, an Interscope Hi-Fi Sound System and a Blue&MeTM Map satellite navigation system. There are also electrically controlled front windows and door mirrors with a height adjustable steering wheel and seats.

Outside, the 500 Abarth Opening Edition features red brake callipers and privacy windows. Inside, distinctive features include leather upholstery, a plate with the car serial number on the central tunnel and two aluminium badges bearing the wording ‘500 Abarth Opening Edition’ positioned on the faring. The steering wheel is also customised with red leather. The gear knob is in glossy anodised aluminium with red engraved gears. The mats are Abarth with a leather band. Other features specific to the 500 Abarth Opening Edition include a grey or white fuel cap and key cover.

Abarth enthusiasts will enjoy the fact that their new 500 Abarth Opening Edition is delivered with a car cover bearing a period Abarth 595 design. The 500 Abarth Opening Edition is available in just two colours, Campovolo grey or pearlised White. Choose the Campovolo grey and your car will also come with some special stickers including a red chequered flag on the roof exclusive to the Campovolo Grey shade that pays homage to the numerous sporting victories of the Abarth brand.

As we have come to expect from the little Fiat 500, there is plenty of standard safety kit. including seven airbags, fog lights, ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) with ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) and Hill Holder in addition to the brand new Torque Transfer Control.
