NEARING THE END of its lifecycle, a new Special Edition PT Cruiser has been wheeled out for Australia.

Available now, the 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Special Edition gets a new cross-hatched solid billet aluminium grille, new 17-inch SRT Design wheels, chromed body-side trim spears and a coat of 'Brilliant Black' paint.

Embossed Momentum seat fabric has been included for a performance-car feel, joining a leather-wrapped steering wheel with bright silver accents and a satin silver-finished instrument cluster with chrome rings.

As a finishing touch, premium floor mats are included with the Special Edition package.

Based on the 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring, the Special Edition is powered by a 2.4 litre petrol engine developing 105kW and 214Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Standard features include power windows with auto-down function, 65/35 fold/tumble/removable rear seats, sliding armrest and storage, Chrysler signature analogue clock, compass, temperature display, air conditioning, heated front seats, floor mats, cruise control and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

A 368-watt Boston Acoustics premium sound system and power sunroof are standard.

The 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Special Edition starts at $29,990 for the five-speed manual or $31,990 for the four-speed automatic variant.
