2009 BMW M3 Sedan Launched In Australia

For the first time ever, BMW will be releasing a four-door version of its stonking hot M3 in the Australian market. No Sedan option existed in the E46 generation, and of the E36 generation, only the Coupé and Convertible was offered in Australia.

The addition of the Sedan to the M3 family, which now includes a convertible option, gives BMW buyers access to the full M3 range.  With over 500 units of the M3 Coupé sold in the past 12 months, the Sedan is sure to also be a sales success.

Powered by the same 4.0-litre V8 found in the Coupé, the BMW M3 Sedan delivers 309kW and 400Nm of torque and will rev to an 8400RPM redline.  The M3 Sedan will rocket to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds for the manual transmission, and 4.7 seconds for the seven-speed M Drivelogic double-clutch transmission.

While fuel economy has never been the greatest concern when buying any V8, the M3 doesn’t disappoint here.  The manual version offers a worthy fuel economy of 12.4L/100km, and the seven-speed Drivelogic box even better at 11.9L/100km.

The BMW M3 Sedan sits on 18-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 245/40 ZR tyres at the front and 265/40 rear.  For those seeking a more powerful look, 19-inch alloy wheels are available as an option, wearing ZR tyres of the same width but on a 35mm profile.

Like the Coupé, the M3 Sedan features Electronic Damper Control and BMW’s MDrive system for greater control over the car’s output and driving setup.  The M3 Sedan also features Brake Energy Regeneration, which charges the vehicle’s battery during braking only, allowing for a 3% fuel efficiency increase and ensuring that full power is available for acceleration.  This technology will be seen in F1 race cars in the 2009 season.

Inside, the BMW M3 Sedan is equipped with an 8.8-inch full colour monitor running BMW’s Professional Navigation system, as well as TV, voice recognition, and preparation for Bluetooth mobile connectivity.  Other luxury appointments include include a LOGIC7 stereo system, Novillo leather upholstery, powered and heated M Sport seats with memory functions, and backrest width adjustment and lumbar support.  External features include metallic paint and adaptive bi-xenon headlights.

The BMW M3 Sedan will be available from November 22nd 2008, starting at $145,000+ORC.  This contrasts with the Coupé which starts at $162,901 and the Convertible at $176,142.
