The guys over at Leftlane have come across some interesting news regarding the next generation BMW 7-Series, due for release during the first half of 2009. The new Bimmer will be sporting an all-new chassis, which is expected, but this chassis will not be exclusively for BMW’s use. We can expect to find the new 7-Series chassis holding the upcoming “baby” Rolls-Royce off the tarmac as well.

The smaller Roller has long been the source of speculation, with Rolls-Royce recently announcing the upgrading of their manufacturing facilities in order to boost production and to allow the manufacture of an all-new model. Rolls-Royce have Bentley’s Continental Flying Spur in their sights so expect the new model to be cheaper for a Rolls-Royce but by no means cheap... Little is known about the new model with specifications, manufacture and styling remaining unknown at this stage.

The new 7-Series chassis will also underpin two 7-Series variants, the regular 7-Series and a long wheel base version. Leftlane sources confirm that the new cars styling will be considerably different to the current models (thankfully) with the odd-ball boot and rear end design being revised and a sportier overall look being achieved. There will likely be greater differentiation between the standard and long-wheel base models with the long-wheel-base model being more conservatively styled.

Engine options will not vary greatly over the current models, with the same 4.8-litre V8 and 6.0-litre V12 being available, no-doubt receiving a bit of a freshen-up from BMW engineers.
