Audi has been kind enough to release an official shot of its latest foray into the world of diesel powered 'arse-kickery', and we like what we see (who wouldn't).

The R15 has some big shoes to fill as the R10 was a dominant force during its tenure on the track. Reported to be sporting a "smaller, lighter and more efficient" TDI engine than the R10, the R15 will contest its first race at the 12-hour event in Sebring Florida on March 21st.

The R10 was powered by a twin-turbo 5.5 litre V12 diesel engine utilising Audi's common rail direct-injection technology. The R15 is reportedly a bigger step-up in technical innovation than the R10 was to the R8.

Sebring will be the test for the new R15 (as it was for its storming oil-burning forebears). Audi is confident the new car is up to the challenge. That means "look out Le Mans".
