If you like them BIG and American then stay tuned. The Hummer H3 has just been released in Oz and now Performax International have released details of their fully complied supersized 2008 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra utes. Performax claim that the new range of Silverado and Sierra ?trucks? offer handsome new styling, outstanding comfort, improved refinement and a 4.5 tonne towing capacity unmatched in its class.

However, big don?t come cheap. The Performax complied brand new Silverado 2500HD crew-cab four-wheel drive is priced at $123,000 plus on-road costs and includes a four-year/120,000 km warranty and four years roadside assistance.

The Silverado 2500HD features crew-cab pick-up bodywork and GM?s rather large Duramax 6.6 litre V8 that produces 272Kw (365hp) and 895Nm (660ft-lb). The big diesel is hooked up to an Allison six-speed automatic transmission with high and low ranges and dashboard-selected four-wheel drive engagement.

The obvious use for a vehicle of this type is towing and the huge torque output and large legal towing capacity (4.5 tonnes with a braked trailer) puts the Silverado in a class of its own for folks with large boats, horse floats and caravans to haul.

"With towing capacity at 4.5 tonnes, it's the big ute many people have been waiting for. We had orders for almost 20 even before the ADR compliance process was completed and now we expect many more from both recreational and business buyers?, said Performax International General Manager Nick Vandenberg
